The bypass's steel superstructure has already been completed and will be pushed in over the next 2 months

The shifting of a steel trough weighing more than 2000 t is a first milestone in the course of the replacement of the canal bridge from 1935/36, which leads the Dortmund-Ems Canal north of Münster over the Ems,

In order to rebuild the Ems canal bridge with the dimensions of the already extended canal section at the same point, it was imperative to enable shipping to bypass the canal bridge during construction.

The Datteln waterway new building authority is building this bypass route together with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kanalbrücke Ems, consisting of the companies Köster, Gollwitzer, Meyer and SEH.

With the bridge trough now moved, the two newly constructed canal sections of the bypass are connected to each other and run in the immediate vicinity of the still existing bridge structure over the Ems.

The steel trough, which weighs 2,110 t, is 62.40 m long, 28 m wide and 8.15 m high, was built on the southern bank of the Ems and was moved by means of hydraulic pulling devices, supported by heavy-duty transport wagons, on a steel steel track.

Impressive construction site, the old and historic canal transfer is still to visit.
