The upper castle in Kazimierz Dolny, the so-called The Elbow Tower or Tower was built at the turn of the 12th and 14th centuries. It is a defensive tower in a circular shape. From the observation deck there is a beautiful panorama of the Vistula River.

The Upper Castle in Kazimierz Dolny, also known as the "Baszta" or Łokietek's Tower, is a medieval defensive tower built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Built at the height of the Vistula River crossing, on the top of Castle Hill, it is located about 180 meters from the lower castle and 19 meters above its level. The tower is up to 20 meters high, and its circumference at the base is 32.5 meters. The thickness of the walls is 4.2 meters at the base, gradually decreasing to 3 meters at the top.

The entrance to the tower is located at a height of six meters above ground level, and the lowest floor contains a dungeon. There is much speculation about the original purpose of the tower. According to various sources, it served as a prison, a river lighthouse, a customs guard headquarters, and even a treasury. However, it seems that its main purpose was to guard the Woyszyn crossing over the Vistula and to collect customs duties. After the nearby castle was built, the tower may have lost its original defensive functions. Over time, after the conical roof was removed, the tower was used as a navigation lantern, helping with night navigation on the Vistula.
