The medieval Kaunas Castle was built at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers to fend off frequent attacks by the Teutonic Knights. The country's oldest stone castle is the only one with two rows of defensive walls (as you can imagine, the Teutonic Knights were quite good at attacking cities).
