From the very beginning, the current windmill stump, popularly known as the "Kumsttonne" (from "Kumst" for "cabbage"), proved to be a complete misinvestment. Around 1750, a certain Amtsrat Ramus from the Lippe Rent Chamber in Detmold came up with the idea of building a mill on the Tönsberg, apparently as part of an economic stimulus program for West Lippe.
