The "Spejande Sjömannen" is a well-known sculpture and landmark in the center of Västervik. The statue was unveiled in 1933 on the occasion of Västervik's 500th anniversary. Execution: It is a total of 6.5 meters high (the sailor himself is 2 meters high) and is carved from a 14-ton granite block from the island of Vinö Kalv in the Tjust archipelago. The design is by artist Ragnar Alyre, and the statue was chiseled by stonemasons David Karlsson and Fridolf Gustavsson. It was created on the occasion of Västervik's 500th anniversary in 1933 and is made of diabase.
