Hiking
The monastery is located about 65 kilometers south of Heraklion, on the eastern slopes of the Asterousia Mountains. The region is extremely dry, barren, and characterized by steep rocky cliffs. All the more fascinating is the monastery itself: it appears like a green oasis in the desert. Due to the special microclimate, even tropical fruits such as mangoes and avocados thrive in the monastery gardens.
