The Störsperrwerk is a barrage at the confluence of the Stör in the Elbe in the municipality of Wewelsfleth.
The barrage was built from 1971 to 1975 in the aftermath of the 1962 storm surge to protect against storm surges. To this end, a new estuary was dug north of the old one. The old estuary is now used as a port. The federal road 431, which connects the Wilstermarsch with the Krempermarsch, runs over the barrage.

In addition to this double security, there are three other emergency systems: If the power fails, the battery-buffered jumps
immediately on an emergency generator. If the control fails,
there is a hydraulic emergency unit that allows the gates to be opened
controlled by hand. The third security level is the
so-called airbags: With the help of compressed air, the gates can
be pressed shut by large air cushions in an emergency.
