The Große Zschirnstein is the highest mountain in the German Elbe Sandstone Mountains. From its plateau with the pretty stone column you have a great view of Bohemian Switzerland. In good weather you can even see the Giant Mountains and the Eastern Ore Mountains in the distance. This is the first mountain that can be reached on the Forststeig from Schöna. Very important: You have to make a short detour to the left to the view, otherwise the forest trail will simply pass by.

The view extends roughly from the Schrammsteinen over Prebischtor, Rosenberg, Schneeberg, Erzgebirge, Dresden to Pfaffenstein. The ascent is rewarded with a 270 ° view.

The ascent to the large Zschirnstein is easy to do with children and rewarded with a magnificent view.

The highest mountain in Saxon Switzerland with a magnificent view into the Bohemian Switzerland. The approach is a bit far, but not very difficult. The spring at the beginning of the valley invites to a refreshment and to fill the bottle - water is drinkable. And if you take some time on the plateau, with a bit of luck, you may observe quite rare birds of prey (more, not to mention, but the name says it all).

Great ascent ideal for a longer walk in family or even with dogs. The 270 degree views from up there are breathtaking because the table mountains are among the highest elevations in Saxon Switzerland. Top!

The Zschirnstein is the highest mountain in Saxon Switzerland and allows a magnificent panoramic view. We were able to see the Giant Mountains and the Eastern Ore Mountains.

Great view. There is also a small hut to shelter in bad weather. Is it really worth it?

A great view of the surrounding mountains in the south and east. And a good view of the highest mountain in Bohemian Switzerland, the 722.8m high 'Hohe Schneeberg'. It is the highest mountain of Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland. On the plateau is a well-made steel plate with a 'map' of the surrounding mountains with names and elevations. In the Bohemian part, search bilingual. We recommend.

Away from the mass tourism on the other side of the Elbe, the view can be enjoyed here in peace.

A little further south is a Boofe. Below the Zschirnsteins (the Forststeig following) is the Zschirnstein bivouac for its use in advance a trekking ticket in the amount of 5 € can be purchased.

Even if I have missed the stone column unfortunately: the view is worthwhile, especially since it is the first on the Forststeig of Schöna coming.

The Zschirnstein is for me one of the most beautiful peaks in the Saxon part.
The remains of the stone pillar are reminiscent of the Saxon state survey in 1865.

A great view awaits the hiker. Almost 180 degrees of farsightedness open up, from the foothills of the Giant Mountains to far into the Erzgebirge the view extends.
