The Hahnbeermann, the "Hahn festival man", in traditional clothing who locked the rooster in the barrel at this festival. Later, the rooster was spared and a game was played in the streets with the Boßelkugel (a type of ball). The rooster was celebrated as a symbol of freedom of the peasant republic of Heide.
