Hidden in the labyrinth of the historic old town of Andria lies possibly Italy's narrowest alley, Vicolo San Bartolomeo, with a width of only 42 cm. The official Guinness World Records holder in Abruzzo measures only 38 cm at its narrowest point, but is otherwise wider.
These narrow alleys historically served for defense, to slow down enemy attackers, and still offer protection from extreme summer heat today.
