In 1793, a solid bridge made of sandstone was built, which was popularly known as the "Napoleon Bridge" due to the French era at the time. Since the bridge became completely unprofitable at the latest with the construction of the road from Salzbergen to Bentheim in 1857, it was to be demolished in 1977. However, this was prevented.
