The mighty walls of this fortress were once to protect the Bressay Sund from the Dutch. The construction began in 1665 during the 2nd Dutch War, but was not completed. The fortress was completed in 1781 during the American Revolutionary War, but was never used for its original military purpose. The fortress is still almost 200 years old today.
