The Rifugio di Salarno, whose ruins are still visible today just beyond the Rifugio Prudenzini, located at an altitude of 2235 m, was the first refuge built by the C.A.I. (Club Alpino Italiano) Brescia Section in 1881. Officially inaugurated on August 25, 1883, the structure was made of massive granite blocks, with a vaulted roof covered by a grassy turf.
After being buried by an avalanche in the winter of 1887-88, it was abandoned and replaced in 1908-1909 by the nearby Rifugio Paolo Prudenzini.
