Depending on which direction you take the Nordschleife of the 7-Weiher hiking trail, you either have this great view of the Dreifelder Weiher with its cow pastures at the beginning or at the end.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the silting up zones of the ponds on the Westerwald Lake District had neither reeds nor willow bushes, but were only lined with zones of sedge, and at the mouth of the Wied in the Dreifelder Weiher perhaps also with reed grass (Phalaris arundinacea). The shorelines of all ponds were grazed by community cattle or, leased out in plots, mown annually. On top of that, temporary agricultural use was practiced throughout the entire 19th century. The Dreifelder Weiher was completely drained from 1858 to 1899 and used as a meadow
(Kunz 1997, 2000).
