The church of Mary Immaculate & St Joseph in Carrig-on-Bannow (completed in 1856) houses one of the region's most important historical treasures: the medieval Bannow Font.
The font dates from the late 12th century and originally comes from the ruins of the nearby St. Mary's Church in Bannow, the Normans' "lost city". In the 19th century, it was moved to the current church in Carrig to preserve it for religious use.
