A seriously impressive pass that feels like a true saddle between two different worlds: to the south, the jagged peaks of the Pucajira and their galciers; to the north, the soft valleys and pastures of Huilca. The final 100m of the climb on either side are steep and loose, so require a head for heights!

The Yanacon Pass, at around 4,610 m, is one of the striking passes of the Cordillera Blanca. It connects the Jancapampa Valley (approx. 3,650 m) with the Huillca high pasture (approx. 4,500 m), making it the only direct access between these two sections. The ascent from Jancapampa is long and steady, technically easy, but physically demanding due to the altitude; at the top, there is an unobstructed view of the surrounding peaks before the descent to Huillca proceeds much more gently.
