The Bema in ancient Corinth (also known as the "Judge's Seat") is one of the most historically and religiously significant sites in the city. It is a large, elevated platform on the Roman Agora (the marketplace).
The Trial of the Apostle Paul: The Bema is world-famous as the place where the Apostle Paul had to answer to the Roman proconsul Gallio around 51-52 AD. Local opponents accused him of unlawful religious practice.
Gallio dismissed the charge, viewing it as an internal religious dispute. This decision enabled Paul to continue his mission in Corinth for a total of 18 months.
