Cycling

The Rhenish donkey leads from Bochum to Witten and further. It is mostly wide and pleasant to drive. So definitely do it when you're around. It ends near the bridge (Blickstrasse) over the A45 and the view is also worthwhile.

The Rheinische Esel is a 12 kilometer long railway cycle path that leads through the southern part of Dortmund and Witten. The route was converted into a cycle path at the end of the 1970s after passenger and freight traffic on this railway line was stopped. The western part of the path is well developed and asphalted, while the eastern part consists of a water-bound surface. There are no major sights directly along the route, but the Rhenish Esel is an attractive route for touring cyclists, especially as a connection from the RuhrtalRadweg to the Zollern colliery.
