Historical information about the Via Annia, a Roman road along the Venetian coast (at the time further inland than the current coastline) of which only some remains are left. It connected Hatria (modern Adria), where it joined the Via Popilia becoming the Via Popilia-Annia, to Patavium (Padua), Altinum (Altino), Iulia Concordia (modern Concordia Sagittaria, where it crossed the Via Postumia) and finally to Aquileia. Near Mestre, the road approached the coast, while between Altino and Concordia it used the pre-existing road system.

The vast archaeological area of ancient Altino is only partially excavated. Unfortunately, due to centuries of plundering, there is very little left standing. The modern Museum is absolutely recommended with its fascinating horse burials but also much more, of course.
