This majestically thrones on the Schlossberg above the market town of Winzer in the district of Deggendorf and offers one of the most beautiful views over the Danube valley. The ruin lies on a steep porphyry rock directly above the Danube. It is known as an outstanding viewpoint from which, in good weather, one can see far beyond the Danube plain to the Alps. The castle was probably built in the 11th or 12th century. It was the ancestral seat of the noble lords of Winzer.
