This approximately 15-meter-high column is the dominant monument on Theresienplatz, right next to the fountain. It is a so-called votive column. The citizens of Straubing vowed to build it in 1704 if the city survived the siege by Austrian troops in the War of the Spanish Succession unscathed. It was completed in 1709. The Corinthian column is made of reddish Salzburg marble (Adneter Kalkstein). At the top sits a gilded group of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as a dove). The base features statues of the Annunciation of Mary and other saints.
