Au an der Donau is a picturesque place in Upper Austria, known primarily for its location directly on the river and its importance for sustainable tourism. It is a district of the market town of Naarn im Machlande in the district of Perg. Au is located directly in the Machland, a flat Danube floodplain that was formerly often hit by floods. Since the construction of the large Danube flood protection, the place has become safer, but has retained its direct connection to the water. The Danube is a landscape-defining element here and offers wide vistas.
