The Ancient Theatre of Aigeira is located in the north of the Peloponnese in the region of Achaia, on the Palaiokastro hill at an altitude of about 350 meters. The theatre was built in the 3rd century BC (approx. 280-250 BC) in the Hellenistic period. What is special about this theatre is that the largest part of the spectator area (Koilon) was carved directly into the existing rock. It offers a wide view over the Corinthian Gulf. It had a capacity for about 3,000 spectators. The archaeological site was excavated from 1916 by the Austrian Archaeological Institute.
