The archaeological site of the Geometric Temple of Nikoleika (also known as the Temple of Helikonian Poseidon). The distinctive metal roof serves to protect the excavated foundations from the elements.
The complex dates primarily from the Geometric period (8th century BC), with traces of ritual use dating back to the 9th century BC.
It is an
apsidal temple (with a semicircular end) that is about 7 meters wide. An even older altar made of unbaked bricks (approx. 760-750 BC) was discovered under the temple floor - one of the oldest of its kind in Greece.
