In the heart of the city of Shymkent lies one of Southern Kazakhstan's most significant memorials: the World War II Memorial in Abai Park. The expansive memorial complex commemorates the victims of the Great Patriotic War, as World War II is still called in the post-Soviet space, and at the same time honors the region's great contribution to the victory over National Socialism.
