The Madonnina of Viareggio is a historical and religious symbol located at the mouth of the harbor, venerated as the protector of sailors. The current statue, inaugurated in 1954, dominates the Burlamacca Canal, watching over the city. The area is now known as a tourist harbor. The Madonnina area represents the maritime heart of Viareggio, inextricably linked to the tradition of caulking and fishing, and is a community landmark. Nearby is the characteristic "Chiesina dei Pescatori," a symbol of local devotion. The site is also often associated with the historic Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio regatta.
