Live ammunition is used at Camp Elsenborn. Before planning this beautiful route through the camp's Red Zone, always check whether shooting practice is taking place. The N658 from Wahlerscheid to Rocherath is also temporarily closed. Many warning signs with the current closure times are posted on site, but these can force long and potentially dangerous detours.

Unfortunately, links are changed too often, so a permanent link always leads nowhere.

The three zones around Camp Elsenborn are not listed on any of the maps available on Komoot. Unfortunately, roads are routed through these areas, especially the red zone.

Option 1 / Eastern bypass: On the German side, take the Eifel Heights Route past the Oleftalsperre Dam.

Option 2 / Western bypass: On the German side, take the Eifel Heights Route to Kalterherberg and the Vennbahn.

Option 3 / If only the red zone is closed: The N658 is open. There is no parallel alternative on the eastern side.
