This is a memorial cross that commemorates an accident involving the Sieg ferry, which once connected Meindorf with the fields on the opposite side of the river. On February 4, 1948, the ferry tragically capsized with a school class, resulting in the deaths of four people, including the ferryman. Later, the ferry service was discontinued after the road bridges could ensure a safe crossing of the Sieg, which is treacherous in winter.
