The Deiseler Tunnel is a special historical structure in the history of railways in Germany. The railway from the Hessian capital and residence city of Cassel to Carlshaven on the Weser was opened in 1848. This makes it the oldest railway tunnel in Hesse and one of the oldest railway tunnels in Germany.

The Deiseler Tunnel is an absolute highlight that you have to take with you! It was built from 1846 for the planned railway line of the Carlsbahn from Hümme to Bad Karlshafen. It was Hesse's first railway line, but it was closed in 1968. At this point the railway ran through a (depending on the source) 202 m or 264 m long railway tunnel. In the course of a fundamental renovation of the tunnel, it was decided to make it walkable and driveable for tourists. The tunnel has on-demand lighting. The tunnel will be closed between November and March to protect bats. A part of the northern part can still be entered, however, since the gate only comes a few meters later.
