The beach at Pwani Mchangani is long and well-suited for beach walks. However, it's not as white as many tour operators promise. Particularly at the TUI Blue Resort, a lot of seaweed had washed ashore, and that section of the beach hadn't been cleaned. It's worth noting, though, that seaweed doesn't necessarily mean the water quality is poor. On the contrary, seaweed is an important economic sector in Zanzibar, cultivated primarily by women and processed into cosmetics (soaps, creams), food, dietary supplements, and exported to the international industry (gelatin). It provides a source of income for the local population.
