The **Flame of Liberty** (*Flamme de la Liberté*) is a striking monument above the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. The golden flame was installed in **1989** as a gift from the American newspaper *International Herald Tribune* to the city of Paris, to mark the newspaper's 100th anniversary.
The flame is an exact scale replica of the torch of the **Statue of Liberty** in New York and symbolizes the friendship between France and the United States.
