Elephants also eat turnips and melons. If you give a baby elephant a hard turnip and it realizes it's too hard or might choke, it will drop the food on the ground, stand on it with its small foot, and crush the hard turnip. Only then will the baby elephant pick up the now edible food with its trunk.
