Legend:

To prevent the introduction of the plague, the roads had been blocked. Two freight cars were stopped by guards. The search found two wagoners who had died of the plague. Thereupon the dead are to be buried here and the carriages and dishes have been burned (Bechstein 1837).

Very likely a memorial stone for the 1682 died at the plague carters Aegydius Hofmann and Johannes Günther. Whether the stone marks the actual location of the event can not be assumed with complete certainty given the peculiar wording of the death entry. It may be an older, already used tombstone. For the celebration of the funeral sermon (January 20, 1682), only the approval of the consistory in Schleusingen had been obtained, as was necessary and usual during official acts for dubious incidents. - The house built in 1658, in which Johannes Günther lived, is still preserved (Suhl-Heinrichs, Meininger Straße 97).
