The bunker was divided in two by sawing and removing a piece of one meter wide. The cutting work with a diamond saw took 4 weeks (I heard from a reliable source...)

This sawn-through bunker along the Diefdijk, together with stairs and jetty, yields an impressive image.

Nice piece of history. Bunker (group shelter) 599 dates from the Second World War, but it is located along the Diefdijk, which was part of the New Dutch Waterline and is also the provincial border between Utrecht/Gelderland and Gelderland/South Holland. Just on the other side of the viaduct, at the Kazemat in the corner Diefdijk/A2, there is an information board about the Waterline. A nice fact about the viaduct is that the railing (see photo) can be lowered with a mechanism in the event of flooding of the Lek or Linge, so that the A2 is closed and the Diefdijk "line" is closed. In the concrete of the bunker you can clearly see what kind of large saw was used to saw out the path.
