Gravel riding
A lime kiln is a specialized furnace that converts limestone (CaCO) into quicklime (calcium oxide, CaO) and carbon dioxide by firing at 900–1000 °C. These often historical structures, such as the examples shown in the Mühldorf lime kiln or in archaeological excavations, were essential for the production of binders (lime mortar) in construction.

Here in the Helental valley, several such kilns were in operation; they were used to burn slaked lime from the local limestone along with the wood that was also available, which was then used to produce mortar for building houses.
