Wat Phra Thong Temple is home to one of the most famous Buddha statues in Thailand.
Legend has it that a young boy and his water buffalo mistook a post for a stake protruding from the ground at the very spot where the Buddha now stands. The boy tied his buffalo to it, and both immediately became ill. Curious, the villagers investigated the post. Upon digging, they discovered it was actually a tuft of hair from a Buddha statue. However, the villagers were unable to completely unearth it. Therefore, they built a temple over the statue.
