If you are traveling by the Ottensteiner reservoir, you should definitely stop by. The castle ruins stands on the peninsula in the middle of the reservoir Ottenstein and offers from the dam bridge a very picturesque sight. Next to the castle there is a bathing place and a campsite. With the MTB you can drive directly into the castle, it is freely accessible.

History: In 1159 Duke Henry the second Jasomir god entrusted his servant Hartung von Rauhenegg and his sons with the Veste Lichtenfels. In 1427, Zwettl Monastery brought its archive and treasures to the hidden forest castle to save the treasures of plundering Hussites. Lichtenfels was still a defensive castle in 1670.
From the middle of the 18th century the building was neglected.

A really beautiful ruin in an idyllic landscape. Worth seeing.
