The heart of the Wopfinger building materials industry is the large Dürnbach quarry in Waldegg near the factory. Limestone is recovered here since 1967. The limestone forms the important basis for numerous building materials that are produced in Wopfing. Every year 1.4 million tons of limestone are mined. The limestone supplies will last at least for the next 50 years. Limestone is mined during the day.
For the solid limestone is loosened by blasting. The Wopfinger quarry is blasted once or twice a week. After demolition, the quarry stones are picked up with heavy excavators and transported by dump trucks to the crushing plant, where they are roughly crushed. Subsequently, the limestone is conveyed underground to the screening plant. There, the division into the 3 different fractions, which are required in the factory.
