Martin-Luther-Platz forms a group of squares with Fuggerplatz. It was given its name in 1933 on the occasion of Martin Luther's 450th birthday; before that it was called Annaplatz. In contrast to the Fuggerplatz, the once elegant conversion of the Martin-Luther-Platz could not be preserved: a town house (also 'Münchsches Haus') built by Johann Gottfried Stumpe for Georg Jacob von Köpf in 1770 was destroyed in 1944.

The Goldsmiths' Fountain and an advertising column are located on the square. The exposed aggregate concrete slabs that were laid in 1970/71 were replaced by granite slabs in 2012-14.
