The bombing on October 3, 1944 created a 130m wide gap in the dike, which reached a depth of up to 18m and a width of 600m by the currents of low tide and high tide. In 1945, the coastline was closed again by a dike. The remaining seawater lake behind the dike forms today's Kreek.
