In the center of a terribly busy and noisy roundabout is this Phu Dong Thien Vuong statue. It is not a historic figure, rather a mythological one, who fights against invadors and has become a symbol for patriotism and resistance.

Phu Dong Intersection is a busy six-street junction. On the traffic island stands a statue of the legendary Saint Giong (i.e., Phu Dong Thien Vuong), depicted riding a horse and holding a bamboo torso. It was erected in 1966 by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, who considered him the "sacred ancestor" of the troops. A unique feature is that he is portrayed here as a child.
