Water purification goes high-tech: The Dortmund-Deusen wastewater treatment plant
Since 1994, the wastewater treatment plant in Dortmund-Deusen has been purifying the wastewater of around 140,000 residents and more than twice that amount of industrial wastewater. A particularly striking feature of the plant is its two enormous digesters: While their shape during the day is reminiscent of a space station or two Easter eggs, those interested in technology who are out late at night can see the two towers illuminated in green and blue light.
