This small harbour was built from scratch in the 19th century by Alexander Nimmo: a Scottish engineer, who built most of the quays (including those in Galway) and the roads in Connemara, stimulating the development of the village and the settlement of Scottish families. He is known for his traditional musical instrument workshop.
