Tips

To heat an old, half-ruined toboggan run by mountain bike is probably a rare and very special adventure. Here at Fichtelberg it is possible. The railway dates back to GDR times and has not been used for years. But beware - in some places, nature has already recovered quite a lot and trees and shrubs slow you down.

The singletrack does not go completely through the old racetrack. On site you can also look for an alternative route yourself. If you are too lazy to go up again, you simply take the suspension railway up to the summit. ;-)

Be careful with MTB! Above difficult entrance. Often the edges fused and low-hanging branches. Is completely passable. In the middle of the hairpin bends drive with respects, steep curve is sandy. End of the train expire, you have to carry wheel over narrow, rooty way out.

The remains of the old natural bobsleigh track is well below the summit of the Fichtelberg which is easy to find and a nice highlight on the mountain bike tour in the Erzgebirge. There you can experience sports history live!

The single trail leads from the Fichtelberghaus in the direction of Jens Weißflog Hotel, on the toboggan run along the old bobsled run

If you only drive on weekdays, otherwise you can meet hikers, and some places are really tight. Train is also bad looking ahead. Long steep curve is dangerous.

Tucked away on the Fichtelberg in the undergrowth, you can still find the last remnants of the race sledge track from GDR times.
For the former "Sportklub Traktor Oberwiesenthal" in 1970 a nature-free racing sled track was built for training purposes. It is 1100m long and consists of a half-shell tube and various outbuildings (for time measuring, etc.).
The sports club was dissolved in 1990. The track has since been used by mountain bikers rather than sledders, and by hikers.

That has something, but please be careful. The long steep turn is dangerous. For example, in the second third, old rusty mounts are unfavorable at shoulder level.

No longer passable, everything overgrown and full of surrounding trees. Even with your eyes wide open, rebar on the ground.

The old toboggan run is overgrown and unfortunately only passable in partial passages.
The moss on the concrete channel requires great caution otherwise it can be very similar to a bobsleigh ride.
Regardless, the morbid charm is absolutely worth seeing - in case of doubt, simply descend and explore on foot.

A great night ride. At night, the entry is difficult to find. But in the end you still have a big smile on your face. And in the dark a super extra charm with a lot of speed. It is not hard to drive.

right in the upper area 2 big trees have fallen in there - big technology would have to run - otherwise a large part is still passable - the end is no longer really usable - really would have to start a couple of locals times a "clearing action" ...

Should times an MTB enthusiastic resident go through with brooms and pruning shears. Also the iron bars on the roadside should not be overlooked. Could be a real highlight for the Fichtelberg, if it could be used with more speed.
In the current state of attention and good brakes are in demand.
Nevertheless, brilliant and worth a departure. And the more people use the train the better the condition can be.

old toboggan run with reinforced concrete banked curves. It's worth it instead of the normal route because of the fun factor.
Attention! Don't drive too fast, in the end the track will be full of holes and overgrown with bushes.
