The Bóvedas are located in the north of the walled old town between the forts of Santa Clara and Santa Catalina. With 47 arches and 23 vaults, it is the last work of the colonial period in the fortified part. They served as a camp for the Spanish and as a prison for the patriots during independence and the beginning of the Republic. There is a ventilation system that was able to supply all rooms with fresh air back then. Today there are bars, souvenir and craft shops here.
