The Upper Lakes consists of a system of 12 lakes separated by travertine barriers: Prošćansko jezero, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Vir, Galovac, Milino jezero, Gradinsko jezero, Veliki Burget and Kozjak. The lakes are located on a waterproof dolomite base from Obertrias. The sea level difference between Prošćansko jezero and Kozjak is 100m. The two lakes are also the two largest lakes in the system.
