For a small fee, visitors can climb the 171 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Beware, you have to go through a narrow manhole twice to reach the next level. From there, you'll have a magnificent view of the surrounding area. If you have a fear of heights or are not very mobile, you can visit the small, unique lighthouse museum.

History: The lighthouse was built to help early explorers navigate the rough seas at Cape Agulhas. Seventy-one steps lead to the top of the second-oldest working lighthouse in southern Africa. The building stones were quarried from the adjacent limestone quarry.

The building also houses a unique lighthouse museum.

East of the lighthouse are the remains of ancient stone fish traps used by the Khoisan people.
