    At Cannero Riviera, a few kilometers south of Cannobia off the western shores of Lake Maggiore, are the unique Castelli di Cannero. This is a very rare sight: a castle built directly on the water level of Lake Maggiore. Or at least seems to be, because the rocky islands on which the Castelli are built, carry the old walls. The plural that emphasizes "the" Castelli is intended - because it means that the entire complex consists of two parts, namely a smaller part on a western rock island, where a wall and a tower slowly but surely expire, and one much larger part on the eastern island.
