Carson National Forest is the northernmost of New Mexico’s five national forests, spanning a vast stretch of high desert, forested valleys, and alpine terrain along the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, a subrange of the Rockies. Known for its cool summer temperatures and wide-open scenery, it offers year-round recreation including hiking, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing, with big mountain views in nearly every direction.
