According to legend, Abbot Anastasius wanted to baptize the pagans of the Lipperland here - including his weapon companion Abbio von Thiotmalli. When the abbot started baptizing and his friend Abbio renounced the gods Donar, Saxnot and Wotan, hundreds of small brown birds settled down and sang beautifully. So it came to be called 'bird baptism'.
